It is without a doubt that photography has been influential to the world in several ways. A Danish philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard, once said, “Everyone will be able to have their portrait taken–formerly it was only the prominent– and at the same time everything is being done to make us all look exactly the same, so we shall only need one portrait.” The philosopher said this during the early 19th century, and to some extent, he was on point. In the past, portraits were the order of the day, and they were costly that only the prominent and rich in the society could afford. However, this changed when cameras got introduced. Many could easily afford at least a photograph in their homes.
The photographic scene has changed tremendously and has also made people look at things differently. From the view master history, one could see things differently than that perceived by the naked eyes. Photography connects people and gives hope where there is no hope. With the rise of social media, people have found friends just by sharing their photos online. Additionally, creative minds have found ways of relaying inspirational messages through graphics integrated with photographs. This has helped deal with several societal issues, such as depression.
Picture or a Word?
The pen is indeed mightier than the sword, and on many occasions, this has proven to be true. However, a single picture is worth a million words since the impact of images on the brain is greater than that of words. One is likely to remember an event or experience easily through a picture rather than words. Gabe Arnold, a publisher on the LinkedIn platform, once posted an article describing why photos talk louder than words when he mentioned Krister Neher, who elaborated that the brain could process images over 60,000 times faster than it could in terms. Additionally, Dr. Pritchard, the CEO of Royal Photographic Society, also stated that photographs are visual images that are like universal language; it does not require one special language skills or understanding to get the message in a picture. This has made communication easy, especially in the world that has become a global village. I
Images have history, from Kodak to view master history photography has brought a whole different level of nostalgia and unity among families. Photography has helped shape and preserve important events in the world.
Photography in Future
At the moment, a lot is going on concerning photography that will turn things a notch higher. Today developers have come up with drones to help capture both videos and photos from viewpoints that are close to impossible to reach. However, this brings security concerns; there was an incident in a London airport where one flew a drone in the airplane area, which halted operations for hours. This could have been catastrophic if it led to a plane crash. Therefore, the photographic scene will witness strict measures and rules to regulate such activities from happening. With the military incorporating photography in their operations, individual freedoms will inevitably get ripped off from typical photographers.
